Description

I welcome the long list of contributors, reviewers, associate editors, and readers of Teacher Education Quarterly to join me in celebrating the work of Dr. Alan H. Jones. His tireless commitment to progressive education, and his devoted efforts serving the California Council on Teacher Education (CCTE) for the past thirty-five years, are to be honored. This Winter 2010 issue of the journal is dedicated to Alan Jones, my friend and colleague. Alan Jones has had a long and remarkable career, including his prominent role as editor and publisher of Prakken Publications (1981-1989) and current publisher of Caddo Gap Press (1989-present). Having earned his Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Michigan in 1971, Alan set out to fill a niche in the world of academic scholarship by becoming involved in both university and policy making venues. His professional activities have included faculty positions at Eastern Michigan University, Sacred Heart University, and the University of San Francisco; two stints on the staff of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; service as Executive Director of the Michigan Conference of the American Association of University Professors; a three-year term as an elected member of the CCTE Board of Directors; the first chair of the CCTE Policy Committee; and a twelve-year term as the past editor of this fine journal. Alan has served as an active and invaluable member of CCTE since 1974, and plays the role of de facto historian of teacher education in California. In addition he has held elected positions as President of the American Educational Studies Association (1986) and Secretary-Treasurer of the Council on Learned Societies in Education (1980-2002).
